Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma's goal was to be an actor. As a young girl of 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes on singing, acting, and dancing. In a school play and the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the film adaptation to J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was first cast for first time in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had eight straight auditions. Emma's first film appearance was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film broke records for the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's performances "amazing". Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for an feature Film. She was later nominated five times for her performance in the movie.
